PolyPaint for Cinema 4D Reads Mesh Vertex Color Information

Rodrigo Bitencourt Rodrigues dropped me a note to show me this new PolyPaint Plugin for Cinema 4D that he has been testing.

Rui Batista shows off a little preview of his up-coming plugin for Cinema 4D, PolyPaint.

PolyPaint for Cinema 4D offers a way to render vertex color stored in OBJ files

The plugin will allow you to read the vertex color information stored in OBJ files that might have been brought over or saved from Zbrush or 3D Coat with vertex color values embedded.

You don’t need PolyPaint for Cinema 4D to open OBJ files as C4D can easily read them without the use of a plugin. Cinema tends to disregard the vertex color information stored within them however. So if you have done any vertex color painting in Zbrush, you won’t be able to get that in a render in C4D.

With the PolyPaint plugin, you can easily render the mesh the way that it was exported from the sculpting applications. Rui Batista actually built the plugin on an ask for Rodrigo Bitencourt Rodrigues – Bitencourt, a 3D Coat and C4D user asked him if it was possible to build such a thing.

PolyPaint for Cinema 4D is currently running a beta. Hopefully the plugin will be made available to the public soon as it looks really useful if you frequent both C4D, Zbrush or 3D Coat.
