Free Magic Mirror Spline for C4D Offers a Unique Mirroring Tool for Spline Objects

Nitro4D posts a new freebie tool in Magic Mirror Spline. The new plugin for Cinema 4D will allow you to easily mirror a spline object. The tool will also connect the open ends of the spline, regardless of where the center point is for that object.

Basically, Magic Mirror Spline will mirror spline objects in Cinema 4D with the behavior that you would expect. Magic Mirror Spline will also keep the points and tangents for the spline an exact mirror for the opposite side.

This can be a great help in modeling, allowing you to easily create half of the shape you need, use Magic Mirror Spline, and then move on to some of the sweep or other modeling tools.

Magic Mirror Spline is only intended and only works on splines. Check out and download theMagic Mirror Spline plugin over at Nitro4D.

Cool to see you posting this!!

    I gotta say this.
The idea for this one actually came out from me. I asked “Nitroman” – the awesome plugin guru – if this was possible to do. Since there is not possible to properly mirror a spline in Cinema 4D – think about that!! if you use built in tools like symmetry or flipped instance and try to extrude it you won’t be able to have caps. And that I say is a total BUMMER!

I wrote Maxon about two years ago question about this problem.
    Here’s what I wrote:

    Hi

Is there a way to symmetry a spline so that it welds the center points – in a non-destructive way ? I’m not able to make it work even with symmetry object: if I put it under extrude object it only extrudes the sides not the caps since it’s not closed spline. Spline mask object doesn’t do the trick either since it can’t do symmetry nor use flipped instance object.

If there isn’t a fine way to do it please fix this problem so that using splines would be that much more fun to use.

    And here’s how they answered:

    Hello Aleksi,

every spline has a start and a beginning point. To have a mirrored spline without
this center point, you need one closed spline without 2 beginnings and 2 ends.
This is simply not possible with CINEMA 4Ds mirroring tools, so the only way to
achieve the result you wish, is creating one closed spline.
Your ways will always create a similar ending and starting point on the same position,
    what can’t work anyway.
    So, the workflow is:
    1) copy one spline and negate his x-scale,
    2) reverse the sequence of the copied spline
    3) connect both splines to one spline
    4) join both sequences of the spline to one and close the spline

Only bugs can be fixed, so this will stay the same workflow as long as a spline is
what a spline is, a line depending on a start and ending point.

AND I HAPPEN TO ASK THIS FROM NITRO4D FEW DAYS AGO AND HE SOLVED THIS LIKE WITHIN A DAY BY MAKING THIS PLUGIN!!!!!! Now think about that! And he did even more than I was expecting.

Gotta say: a real gentleman 🙂
