Model, Rig and Animate a 3D Folding Fan in C4D

By March 24, 2015No Comments

Ilir Beqiri posts a look into the problem of how to model, rig and animate a contiguously folding fan in Cinema 4D. The method requires some pre-planning as it uses C4D’s MoGraph, Xpresso building and breaking of IK Chains, and binding.

Ilir notes that the technique was developed some time ago an an older project. Among the elements on that project was a 3D folding fan that popped up. It actually took some time to figure out how to set up the folding fan for easy animation.

The order in which Ilir builds the scene may seem a bit counter intuitive, but it all has purpose.

The order in which I bild the scene might seem counter intuitive, bur trust me, it’s for a good reason. You can download the scene files: goo.gl/NwMqxx.
