The 3D-Coat 4.5 release a couple of months ago, set some new features and functionality within the application. 3D Coat 4.5 introduced a new physically based renderer as well as its companion, the ability to texture using smart materials.
With all the features of the release, comes a new “getting started” series, aimed at getting new users oriented with working and creating assets in the application.
3D Coat’s ability to do PBR launches it into another level of production based workflows. Metals and non-metals reflect and scatter light differently, and the new PBR system within 3D Coat offers familiar tools for working with Albedo, energy conservation, and the fresnel effect for materials.
In addition to the new PBR and smart material systems, 3D Coat 4.5 introduced paint layer groups, new methods for working with symmetry, and seamless painting over multiple UV’s. Check out the 3D Coat 4.5 page for more information on the additions in the release.
