Magnum the Edit Detector seems like a helpful tool. One that could have a look at a single piece of footage in After Effects, detect where all the cuts where, and cut it up to the way that it was in the initial edit suite.
[pullquote]Now with an all new detection engine that is easier to use and gives better results.[/pullquote]The problem was, while it worked most of the time, Magnum didn’t work all of the time, and could easily be tricked. This might be a thing of the past, with the new release of Magnum 3.
Not only does Magnum 3 add newly needed support for After Effects 2015, but it also has a brand new detection enging that proves to be much easier to use, and give way better results.
In fact, its creator Lloyd Alvarez mentions that Magnum 3 will work right out of the gate without any adjustments at all, in a large majority of cases. Magnum 3 also has a new feature that will let you tell it how many frames to search for. This can compensate for things like dissolves as well as a useful setting to avoid things like cuts in quick panning shots, or strobing footage.
Magnum 3 also has a new detection analysis layer, that shows you at a glance what is going on, and lets you further fine-tune your results.
New Magnum 3 Features Include:
- Brand new detection engine that works with all footage types
- Easier to set visual change threshold setting
- Search range feature to compensate for dissolves
- CC 2015 compatible
- Thumbnail export with optional spreadsheet data
- Highly customizable naming options
