Use the Merge Node to Combine MASH Networks

There is a lot to discover in Maya’s new Motion Graphics Toolkit, MASH. Luckily, there are some really great walkthroughs to get you started. Here, Ian Waters shows the power behind the Merge node in Maya’s MASH. The Merge Node, lets you create more complex animations by easily combining multiple MASH networks together.

MASH’s Merge node allows you combine multiple MASH networks to add further complexity to your animations.

Here, Ian shows how you can create an animation where MASH points (in this case, tiny boxes) can move from one state, into a final state, morphing along the way. This is actually two separate networks, one where the boxes are replicated in a grid, using a bit of randomness, and the other where boxes are scattered across some type. Merge is used to create a seamless morph between the two networks. MASH is now a bundled an integrated tool in Maya 2016, ext 2.
