Render Particles With DOF Faster Using xpMaterial

By July 21, 2016No Comments

Why waste hours and hours rendering depth of field for your latest particle effect? We all know that things like motion blur and depth of field can be costly to render. That doesn’t mean that you can’t tweak a few things to make it possible. If you are using X-Particles in C4D, you can use the xpMaterial shader to essentially “fake” a DOF effect that will render really fast, and look great.

The effect cleverly uses the modifiers section in the xpMaterial Shader. In the xpMaterial, you can modify how size, color and transparency are rendered for the particle emitter. Altering the depth and scale to be based on distance, and then changing the light effect to “fuzzy”, you can get a great looking DOF effect.
