Have a Look at Houdini 16’s New Shading Features

Kai Stavginski is a Senior Technical Director for SideFX, working on Houdini. Here, he covers the new shading features that are available with Houdini 16. Kai looks at the Principled Shader, Houdini’s Classic Shader, Absorption, Dispersion and Dielectrics

The focus is on Houdini 16’s aspects that enable effects that were not possible in previous versions. An example is how realistic absorption and dispersion is handled in Houdini. Nested dielectrics are also covered in depth. They can allow for correct rendering of interfaces between transparent media with hardly any setup.
