Academic Phoenix Plus Walks Through Creating Tangled Vines in Maya Using Extrusions and Maps
Monica from Academic Phoenix Plus covers creating tangled vines in Maya from start to finish. It begins by manually creating the vines by extruding profiles along curves in Maya. The leaves and the flowers placed on the vine are cards with textures and alphas/transparencies.
The multipart tutorial has everything you need to learn how to create a complex scene in Maya. You can even download the source materials. Visit Academic Phoenix Plus for more information.
PFX, the Old Stand-By
There are other methods for creating vines in Maya. One that immediately comes to mind is a preset paint effects brush. Although an older feature in Maya, Paint FX still is an excellent platform for a lot of work in Maya. Just have a look at some Ivy created and animated by Realizm.nl — Pretty amazing!
