David Longfield’s VFX Course is a Great Primer for Visual Effects Fundamentals.

If you are new the VFX game and are looking to solidify some of the concepts that get used in production, consider taking a look at David Longfield’s Fundamentals of VFX. The course nicely illustrates some of the more convoluted concepts and terms in a way that is instantly understandable. The fundamentals course is just that. It doesn’t touch on software techniques; instead, it looks into the concepts and the language of how visual effects get made.

“It is a reasonably comprehensive course that covers everything that newcomers and even intermediate learners need to know,” Longfield says. “The course is theoretical in its scope which is an excellent addition to all the practical (software oriented) tutorials and sessions.” If you are looking to gain a better understanding of how VFX works, along with understanding a lot of the industry terms like Deep Compositing, Planar Tracking, 3D Camera Projection, Image Based Lighting, Node-based Compositing, Match Moving and much more, this course is worth a view.
