There are a lot of ways that you can access compositions throughout After Effects. In his latest scripting tutorial video, NT Productions‘ Nathan Lovell shows how you can access comps using ExtendScript.
The tutorial discovers a variety of methods that include how to select the comp as an actual item, finding it as a layer, as a pre-comp along with some other ways too.
