A new tutorial series from the CG Monkey King David Ferreira shows how you can create fractal mineral growth with Side FX Houdini. The tutorial covers techniques that Ferreira used in a personal project but was hesitant to make tutorials of the process because it’s “really really very simple,” Ferreira mentions. Nonetheless, there are a series of tutorials that cover creating fractal mineral growth in Houdini.
Ferreira also covers a couple of ways to render the minerals, one with Houdini Mantra, and the other using Redshift for Houdini. Make note that all the HIP files and Substance textures available for download.
