Lots of motion artists strive to get that handcrafted look to their work. There are certainly lots of tricks to get animation looking like it was less computer-assisted and more drawn by hand. One sure-fire way to get a hand-drawn look is to, well, draw it by hand. Have a look at Ben Marriott’s latest tutorial shows you have to create an organic transition using a unique workflow.

Marriott shows how to work with Rough Animator on a tablet, Adobe Photoshop, and After Effects to knock out a liquid transition effect that looks great. The result looks complicated, but it’s as simple as blocking out the animation by drawing simple blobs.
