How to Create a 3D Map Marker in After Effects

Jason Boone shows how to create and animate a 3D map marker in After Effects.

Jason Boone has a tutorial series called Monday Maps, where he shows how to make useful map elements in After Effects along with other applications too. His latest shows how you can create a 3D map marker that animates. The tutorial doesn’t need any special third-party tools for Ae and instead uses Ae’s 3D engine.

The project starts with a shape layer where Boone shares some tips for working with multiple paths in vector shapes. The extrusion uses the Cinema 4D 3D engine that comes bundled with standard versions of After Effects. Boone makes the completed project available as an After Effects file. Download that here.
