Working With the Physical Lens Shader in Houdini

Check out how to render with Karma using a Physical Lens shader in Houdini 18.5.

By now, we’ve all had our minds blown by the Houdini 18.5 feature video. While there are many explosive new things in Houdini’s latest release, there are also some lighting and look dev additions as well. One example is the unique physical lens shaders to Karma.

The Side FX team posts a look at how to use the physical lens and how you can easily set your focus plane for it. You can quickly set specific areas of your scene to get the depth of field in your render. The Karma renderer is still in beta with Houdini 18.5, but it’s evolving quickly with things like fur support, the physical lens shader, and progressive rendering to Mplay.
