How to Assign Materials to the Inside of a Houdini Fracture

Small Robot Studio shows how you can assign materials to the inside of an RBD fracture using masking.

If you are looking for a technique that allows for the texturing of an RBD fracture in Side FX Houdini so that both sides have a material, check out this new tutorial from Small Robot Studio’s (Michael Rew).

Rigid body dynamic fractures are fun to play around with inside Houdini, but it might not be apparent how you can apply a unique material to the inside parts of all the broken pieces.

“We’ll set up a quick RBD fracture in this tutorial and assign materials separately to the internal and external geometry. We’re using a masking technique that can be used relatively universally with most renderers; here, we’re using Redshift.”
