Progress Preview of Timing Chart for Maya Providing a Traditional Timing Chart for Maya Animators

Ron Bublitz, the CGJedi known for creating some really great animation tools for Maya, including the Digital Pose Test Tool, and Graph Editor Redux, posts a sneak look at something that he is working on which is currently in Beta.

Cleverly, the Timing Chart for Maya takes on a classic animator’s timing chart look and feel as well as providing a functional way to create and edit animation in Autodesk Maya.

Looking just like a traditional animation timing chart, the Timing Chart for Maya can have different types of keys displaying on the bar, from a normal keyframe, to an extreme key or storytelling keyframe, and even breakdown keys.

Although internally Maya treats the distinction between those two keys the same, the Timing Chart Tool differentiates the keys with a visual cue for an easy read. Timing Chart will also allow you to add some timing arcs to the bar graph, in halves, quarters, or thirds which allows you to create in-betweens in a really intuitive way.

Timing Chart for Maya seems like it’s on its way to being a great tool already.
