An Overview of Maya OpenData and Scene Assembly Workflows

By June 1, 2013No Comments

What exactly is Maya OpenData? Autodesk posts an overview of the Autodesk Maya OpenData initiative with Steven Roselle demonstrating the scaleable referencing system, Scene Assembly workflow in Maya 2014.

Scene Assembly Tools in Maya are founded on the OpenData platform, Alembic and incorporating the Maya file referencing system, creating a workflow that incorporates the two new interdependent nodes of Assembly References and Assembly Definitions.

The Maya Open Data initiative is about providing tools, functionality and workflows that facilitate the management of complex scenes, parallel pipelines and custom data

The Maya Scene Assembly tools showed up in version 2013 of Maya, and has been expanded upon in 2014, allowing for geometry conversion to bounding boxes, creating low res representations of objects in Maya Scene Assembly Workflows.

Here Steven demonstrates how the Maya Scene Assembly tools cab make managing and editing scenes with huge amounts of data associated with them, a much simpler and effective task.
