Working With Maya’s New Cached Playback Feature

By February 13, 2019No Comments

Lee Fraser offers a demo of the new cached playback feature in Maya and covers some of the controls too.

With the release of Maya 2019 came a bunch of new features, but probably the most significant are improvements to the ability to cache animation for playback. Maya’s caching system works as a background process that evaluates the scene and caches the data for every frame, making animation playback a lot faster.

Sr. Technical Specialist for Autodesk, Lee Fraser walks through how cached playback works in Maya, and offers some descriptions for a lot of the controls involved. Caching scenes will let animators work more freely, creating fewer playblasts. Fraser’s tests are on an HP ZBook and an Nvidia 5000m graphics card.
