Digital Creator School shows how you can create a scales transformation effect like in the movie “Luca”.

Check out this new tutorial from Lucas Ridley of Digital Creator School that shows how you can recreate the skin to scales transformation effect seen in the film “Luca”. Ridley uses Maya’s motion graphics toolkit, MASH, to create the effect.

Admittedly, the effect found in the film is much more complex, and Ridley calls his version a “poor man’s” version; still, it’s a neat-looking effect that you can probably use anywhere and for a variety of things too.
