WORKING WITH THE CLOTH TOOL IN 3D-COAT

Ian Thompson offers an introductory look at a method for sculpting clothes. 3D-Coat is a one-stop shop for sculpting, UV mapping, painting, retopology, shading and rendering, and it has simple cloth simulation tools that can really help in sculpting and UV creation.

The 3DC cloth tool will allow you to work with cloth dynamic forces, to help sculpt a more realistic folds for cloth-like objects. With the cloth tool you can drape an object over your sculpt, or use it to create a quick base for clothes.

The cloth tools options are pretty straightforward, with some choices to stick to the current object with gravity settings, friction and cloth thickness. The Cloth Tool has a start and stop simulation button, but it can be a little more involved than that. Ian walks through some of the settings and how he works with cloth to create a shirt with believable wrinkles, creases and fold.
