Satya Meka highly anticipated plugin for After Effects – Plexus has been released on AEScripts. Plexus is a “next generation” 3D particle system to create 3D organic structures and networks right in After Effects. The plugin looks great – however, it is not really not priced cheap. Weighing in at a special introductory price of $149.99 for a single user licence, which will go up to $199.99 starting March 1.

I don’t think that Plexus is meant to compete with After Effects’ popular 3rd party particle plugin Trapcode Particular, however, at that price range, it is clear that Satya Meka is shopping it in the same market. Satya Meka notes that the price reflects Plexus’ abilities, unlike Trapcode Particular, Plexus can make use of masks, import actual 3D models (as OBJ files and sequences) and is modular in workflow making it infinitely configurable… so perhaps we do have the “next generation” 3D particle system for After Effects here.
