Peregrine Labs Introduces Yeti for Maya a Procedural Generator for Fur or Anything

By July 30, 2011No Comments

What is this?! a new Fur / Hair system for Maya? Where did this come from? Peregrine Labs will be doing live demos of YETI, a new product to produce procedurally generated fur, feathers, or leaves or what-have-you. The key premise of YETI is the fact that it is fairly simple render engine independent working with Renderman, 3DeLight, V-ray, and Arnold… wow! Also of interest is the node-based graph editor for putting together fur using nodes such as “grow” “scatter” or “blend” – pretty cool workflow. Check out the Page for Yeti at Peregrine Labs for more information.

Peregrine Labs notes on Yeti: “We are planning a 1.0 release around Siggraph 2011 – until then this site will be updated with images, videos, tutorials and more detailed information. The pricing structure for Yeti is still to be determined, we are aiming to be competitively priced and hope to offer flexible licensing models.”

“Yeti is a new product from Peregrine Labs to help visual effects and computer animation studios produce procedurally generated solutions such as fur, feathers and leaves. This is a brief overview of the grooming workflow.”
