Kushal Goenka wrote a Script that will automatically set up all given texture patches into a Layered Texture in Maya. The Mari2Maya script was born out of the need to Automate the tedious task of transfering texture patches from Mari to Maya Kushal Goenka notes… so he quite simply wrote Mari2Maya Script which Automates the Process of Setting up given MARI Texture Patches into one Single Layered Texture in Maya.
Check out the Mari2Maya Script for Automatically Setting Mari Texture Patches into a Maya Layered Texture Node here.

If you are using vray you only need to load in your first texture. So, if your first texture is named optimus_diff.1001.tif, just change the 1001 to and there is no need to chain anything or use layered texturing.

Although vray will render the UDIM textures that way, unless you do the layered texture approach they won’t show up in the viewport.
