Robert Magee, Product Marketing Manager at Side Effects shows how to use the geometry solver in Houdini 12 to create footprints in the snow by applying Houdini’s procedural operations over time. Check out the tutorial for Creating Footprints in the Snow using Houdini Geometry Solver here.

from the tutorial description: In this lesson, you will learn how to use the Geometry solver in Houdini 12 to create footprints in the snow. This powerful new feature gives artists a way to apply procedural operations over time. For instance the ray node can push a surface to create a footprint but as a character walks, the footprints disappear. The geometry solver makes sure each footprint is retained to create a memory of all the actions taken.
