Built for the casual scripting tinkerer right down to After Effects Developers, the ExtendScript Developer Utility (E.D.U.) allows you to build and run scripts right in After Effects and easily enter an ExtendScript object and get its available properties and methods.

ExtendScript Developer Utility (E.D.U.) is a helpful script for the user who is learning and/or developing Adobe® After Effects® scripts

The ExtendScript Developer Utility comes to us from its developer David Torno who released the script as part of his After Effects ExtendScript training, which we have been following closely here. The E.D.U. contains two areas for the properties and methods results, offering a scripting area where you are able to run and test script code without leaving After Effects and even save your code out to a JSX file for use in AE later.

The code is considered live within the ExtendScript Developer Utility, meaning you can affect the projects that are currently open in After Effects, and includes macro presets that will create repetitive bits of code with a single click.

The ExtendScript Developer Utility features include:

  • View ExtendScript properties.*
  • View ExtendScript methods.*
  • Script writing area to run/test your code on your currently open project.
  • Appending options to add code to the script area or search entry box.
  • Macro presets for commonly used code.
  • Ability to save your code as a JSX script file.

* Due to some security and Adobe® limitations not all of the ExtendScript Objects, Properties, Methods, and Method Arguments are available for use or display.

ExtendScript Developer Utility script has been tested on computers running Mac OS X: 10.7, 10.8, PC Windows 7 and is compatible with After Effects CS5, CS5.5, CS6, and CC(12.0), and to find out more, you can check the page for the After Effects ExtendScript Developer Utility here.
