Maya | Maya LT Extension Release Adds Retopology Toolset, “Send to Unity” and MEL Scripting Features

It wasn’t that long ago that Autodesk released Maya LT which is squarely placed for indie game makers, offering the power of Maya without the hefty price tag.

Since then Autodesk have been quick to make Maya LT a valuable tool to game makers listening to the comments and criticisms and adding some new features in an extension release, most notably the extension release offers new support for MEL scripting with Maya’s Embedded Language, some modeling improvements, and a “Send to Unity” command for enhanced workflow between Maya LT and the Unity Game Engine, and enhanced animation workflow tools.

Maya LT 2014 extension 1 adds an improved retopology toolset that helps artists optimize meshes for cleaner deformations and better performance from a single toolset

Autodesk recently posted a brief look at some of the new modeling additions in Maya LT such as the improved boolean tools and the retopology toolset making its way over from Maya. There is also a brief look at the Send to Unity workflow, showing exporting 3D assets into Unity being brought directly into a target Unity project folder.
