Autodesk Introduces Online Character Generator

Character-Generator-2

Autodesk took the wraps off another tool that leverages the cloud with the Autodesk Character generator. The Character generator will let you adjust and customize attributes for characters right in the browser.

You are able to change pretty much all aspects of the character’s features from the face, body, clothes, and hairstyle. The Character Generator offers tools very similar to the features of MakeHuman, or the editing environment for creating character avatar in games.

Drastically reduce the time needed to create customized, rigged and ready-to-animate 3D characters with Autodesk® Character Generator; a new, easy-to-use, web-based service

Character Generator in Multiple Resolutions

The Character Generator will allow you to create characters in various levels of detail depending on what your needs are.  You can generate characters for a crowd, or a high rez model. You are even able to generate an LOD that can be used as a collision mesh for simulations. Resolution also trickles down to the model ancillaries, such as textures and the maps needed for the corresponding polygon resolution.

Rigging Included

The models are generated with a body rig, that is animation ready – leveraging Autodesk’s HumanIK motion capture standard setups. The character Generator will let you export for all Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite editions which include Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, MotionBuilder, Mudbox and MayaLT. Seems that the only file-native format is Maya, with the other formats being serviced through FBX.

Availability

The Character Generator comes in two tiers, with a free version and a premium paid version.

The premium version allows you to access different artistic styles for characters, the ability to generate medium  or high quality models for export in Maya and FBX file formats, and the ability to create facial expressions for the character.
