Create a Back to the Future Style Fire Trail With Maya Particles

Fire Trail With Maya particles

Maya Particles can achieve a lot of effects, but few can be as fun as trying to recreate the back to the future fire trail. Eric Rosenthal has a quick little follow-align tutorial on 3DArtistOnline.com showing how to create a simple homage to the film Back to the Future. Eric walks through the settings and networks needed to create a fire trial behind a moving vehicle, using Maya Particles.

Interestingly, Eric uses Maya Particles and not Maya’s new nParticle system for the tutorial. You can walk through emitting Maya particles set to the right places based on the car’s tires, and setting the particles to look and feel like fire. Therein also a bit about using the render layer system to output the render with a bit of control.
