If you output the transformational data out from a cloner object, you can alter it with an Xpresso RangeMapper node, and output that value to any parameter that you want to drive. This can also work with multiple clones.
This offers a fast setup, but has a few drawbacks. One is that it is difficult to reposition the effect. The second is that this can easily get away from you and become overly messy.
