Using Ornatrix With Maya’s Existing Hair Tools

While Ephere’s Ornatrix is still in the beta stage, Marcel Khadiyev has been posting some snippets on its use for the beta testers involved. Ornatrix is a complete hair, fire, and feather solution for 3DS Max, that has been making its way over to Maya.

Ornatrix also provides workflow for working with Maya’s existing hair tools

Ornatrix takes a unique parametric approach to creating and styling hair with the staking system that it offers. Although it can be used on its own, it is great to see that there is some interoperability with Maya’s existing hair tools.

Here, Marcel shows how you can start with an Ornatrix hair system and then convert that to Maya’s nHair and Paint Effects. The brilliant part is that they are still connected. So you can use Ornatrix’s hair stack to modify the hair and see the changes pushed back to the nHair and Paint Effects system.

Marcel shows off this non-destructive type of workflow in Maya, as well as some of the previously unexplored styling tools that Ornatrix has to offer.

Ornatrix for Maya is still beta, but you can find out more information for its 3ds Max plugin.
