C4D Artist and Motion Designer, Florian Thamer, shares some insights into how he works with Cinema 4D, X-Particles, and Octane to create stylized artwork. Florian makes use of the Cinema 4D hair module, as he shows how he created a stylized skull render.

The render was based on his “Levitate” render that can be found here in 4000x4000px resolution: florianthamer.com/2016/05/02/levitate/. Florian offers some tips for working with X-Particles and Octane. Most notably, he stresses to always use low geometry as the XP Collider object. The C4D viewport can slow down considerably if the poly count is too high. There are also some tips on how you can achieve the same look, but use far less geometry when working with this type of look using X-Particles.

Florian notes that the final piece took roughly 4.5 hours to complete, which includes roughly an hour to load the scene into octane.
