Mt. Mograph’s Free Focus Script Helps to Manage Layers

Matt Jylkka Shares Focus Script, That Can Help to Shy and Enable Layers Automatically in After Effects.

Layer management seems to be a point of contention for many Ae users. That fact is likely why there are many scripts and 3rd party tools that attempt to make that workflow a little better, or at the very least, manageable. A new one from Mt. Mograph’s Matt Jylkka looks to be a fast, lite solution that also happens to be free. His Focus script is a simple utility that can enable/disable and shy layers in both the timeline or the viewer.

Focus script also lets you create custom groupings of layers by way of Ae’s label system. What makes the Ae tool unique is that you can quickly switch between what Matt calls “depths of focus.”. You can isolate layers and groups in the Ae timeline, composition view, or both, and even bounce between them. “When you’re Focused, you get a considerable performance boost while previewing animation,” Matt says.
