Learning Procedural Modeling Techniques in Houdini

Adrien Lambert shows how to make a roller coaster in Houdini using procedural modeling techniques.

A new tutorial series from Senior Generalist at ILM Vancouver Adrien Lambert helps you learn procedural modeling techniques by making a roller coaster. “I figured roller coasters would be a great way to introduce people to procedural modeling,” Lambert says about the tutorial. Turns out, models that have a lot of repetition in them are an excellent premise for procedural modeling.

The first part of the tutorial has a look into creating the piping and all the internal connections for the framework of the roller coaster ride. Another unique item for modeling this way are buildings. Using the modular approach, you can change up the style of the home, number of windows, number of floors, and more. Have a look at this tutorial from the CGI Nerd that shows how to model a building using procedural techniques.
