Space Switching for Character Rigs in Houdini

Rok Andic shows how to set up space switching for rigging in Side FX Houdini.

An essential feature for character rigging and animation is the ability to switch spaces. Space Switching lets controls and objects affect other controls and objects. For example, if a character needs to pick up a coffee cup from a table, you don’t want the animator to key both the container and the character’s hand. Instead, the character hand can control the cup. Check out this new tutorial from freelance 3d artist based in Kamnik, Slovenia Rok Andic.

Andic has a look at how to create space switching in Houdini for character rigging. The tutorial covers creating and setting up the basic constraints system, how to keep the old space positions, and a bit on bidirectional constraints, and how to set those up.
