How to Use Expressions to Change Fonts in After Effects

Mike Ridolfi shows how you can change fonts in the new Ae using expressions.

The latest release of After Effects added some new features expanding what is possible with expressions. One of the things that are now possible is to keyframe a font change on the screen. Check out this new tutorial from Mobox Graphics’ Mike Ridolfi, who shows how to use expressions to keyframe and change fonts.

There are a couple of ways to approach the technique; you can use keyframes or random functions. Ridolfi shows both along with some tips and tricks along the way. After Effects 17 (2020) added some text functions in expressions for the first time, making it possible to work with the source text, fonts, or typeface properties in Ae’sAe’s expression engine.
