Using Fusion 360 for Game Assets

Can you use Fusion 360 to create low res game assets?

The short answer is yes. Fusion 360 is great for making hard surface models. It’s a parametric modeling system working with surface and solids rather than vertices and polygons. Solid modeling allows you to do a lot of the “hard surface work” more quickly than it would with polygons. Modelers like Shapr3D, MOI3D, and Fusion 360 offer a great way to build hard surface stuff while still allowing you to iterate on your designs quickly.

In a bit of an experiment, Youtuber “name notimportant” provides an overview of his experiences working with Fusion 360 to create the assets for a VR racing game. “It’s less about the game and more about making the models and the process of bringing them into Unity.” While hard surface models are easier inside and CAD apps, it’s interesting to see 360 added into a game asset workflow process.
