Pixxo 3D shows how you can dynamically scratch car paint with a simple simulation.

Pixxo 3D Juandre (Jay) Labuschagne dives into some of the principles to get a scratched car paint effect, where you can animate the car paint scratching off to bare metal.

“This tutorial teaches the basic principle of this effect.” Juandre says. “It will not focus on achieving a final high-end product but rather just a valuable skill for your future Blender projects.”

The setup uses Blender’s Dynamic Paint and creates many image sequences that then get piped in to make the scratch effect.
