CG Shortcuts uses joints, morph and jiggle to make a folding map.

We’ve seen lots of tutorials out there that show you how you can fold paper-like objects and animate that. This new tutorial from CG Shortcuts (Dave Bergin) shows how to create a simple setup in Cinema 4D for folding a map with animation.

The tutorial uses a few joints, the morph tag, and some jiggle to add that extra bit of life to the animation. “We’ll also let you in on a little secret for baking the animation and getting rid of those pesky intersecting geometries.”
