Animating or simulating paint and paint smears is a popular effect to create in Side FX Houdini. We’ve seen Will MacNeil’s paint stroke asset and Junichiro Horikawa’s interpretation of the oil painting technique.

A new tutorial from Moritz Schwind (Entagma) shows how to create a super-real-looking paint smear using FLIP in Side FX Houdini. “In this tutorial Mo covers setting up a basic viscous FLIP sim using animated colliders to create the impression of acrylic or oil paint being smeared around with a brush.”
