Creating Abstract Art With Arnold’s Distance Shader and Clip Geo

Lee Griggs shows how to use Arnold’s Clip Geo shader and the Distance Shader to create abstract images.

The latest version of Arnold Render added a new Distance Shader that lets you sample rays to evaluate the distance from the shading point to the nearest surface. Here, Autodesk’s Arnold Rendering Specialist Lee Griggs shows how to create abstract works using the Distance Shader and the Clip Geo shader in Arnold.

Both shaders will work with TraceSets, letting you control which objects in the scene receive the effect.

Griggs tells you how you can use the distance shader combined with the ramp_rgb shader and the clip_geo shader to create an abstract art effect.
