How to Create a Point Growing Effect With Cinema 4D Scene Nodes

Dominik Ruckli shows how to create a point-growing effect with Scene Nodes and the Volume Builder in Cinema 4D.

This new tutorial from Dominik Ruckli explains how to create a point grower effect in Cinema 4D using the Volume Builder toolset and Scene Nodes.

The system starts with a single point, adding new points randomly. Ruckli creates a system that checks if the points are too close to existing ones or exceed a certain noise threshold. They get placed in the point cloud if they pass both checks.

The effect gets life from a capsule object, a memory node, a point array, an age array, a random direction node, a vector math node, an append node, a closest point node, a condition node, a set point node, and a volume builder node.

Additional techniques covered in the video include:

  • Using an influential direction to control the point growth’s direction.
  • Using multiple star points.
  • Texturing the final result.
