Tracking a Face with Boujou and Maya

Dylan from Digimatik demonstrates the fundamentals of tracking a face using Vicon Boujou 5 and Maya to create a shot where you can replace the head of an actor with a 3D object, in this case, a 3d model of a television.

Follow along as we explore the fundamentals of facial tracking in this step-by-step guide to understanding the workflow between Boujou 5 and Maya 2012

Dylan shows the entire process for creating a facial track in Boujou including placing some basic tracking markers on the actors face to help with the tracking process in Boujou, creating image sequences for Boujou to use, creating the tracking data in Boujou that will ultimately be used in Maya and having it follow the tracking data from Boujou.

Vicon Boujou is a higher ranger motion tracking and matchmove software, coming in at $10,000 for a commercial license, so it’s not really priced for the average user, however if you wish to follow along with this tutorial, there is a demo version you can try out, or alternatively, the same techniques can be used in any matchmove application from PFtrack to Syntheyes.
