Yesterday, I posted a look at Tony Pinkevich’s study in creating character animation in After Effects using a traditional animation approach, pose to pose.
Tony’s post was a time-lapse of his work in After Effects, but as luck would have it, the F-Bomb-dropping Animator Ross Plaskow, recently walked through a similar process.
Although Ross doesn’t use thumbnails to pre-visualize his poses, he does use the pose to pose technique for blocking in the animation.

Poses are created simply by modifying the vector shapes in After Effects, using simple parenting to keep some things in place.
This is actually a continuation of his “how to animate a character series”. Ross shows how to create the lip sync for the character in previous tutorials.
