Most node-based material systems still allow you to use layers. Most systems will have a node that will enable you to stack or layer images, textures, mattes, or even other shaders. In Redshift, this is the Material Blender.

A Node-Based Way of Stacking.

This new tutorial from the You + Me Academy shows how you can stack materials on top of each other. “Layering materials in Redshift Render is different than in C4D.” It can feel a lot like Photoshop ideologies. “At first, it might feel a bit foreign, but after a bit of practice, it will become your new favorite way to create textures.”
