Creating an Origin Rig System With Offset Parent Matrix and Falloffs in Maya

Pranay Meher shows off an Origin Rig system in Maya using the Offset Parent Matrix and the new falloff system.

Maya 2022 makes it clear that the Autodesk team is taking rigging in a different direction. Falloffs and tags offer an expanded and more flexible workflow for a lot of tasks, including rigging.

Check out this series of videos from Pranay Meher, who walks through how he set up this arm rig using an “origin” setup. Meher uses Maya’s offset parent matrix and the new falloff system to drive a few things in the rig. Visit Meher’s article to learn more.

Some might remember a similar setup in Voodoo, the proprietary software used at Rythm and Hues.
