3D Artist Damon Lavenski provides a tutorial series on the subject if Human IK (HIK) and shows how to map your skeleton, how to bring in motion capture data on HIK rigs, and defines a general overview for working with HIK rigs in Maya.

in this tutorial I go over how to define the bones for motion capture data. I’ll also explain how to connect a custom rig to the system, this will allow you to map motion capture to your custom make

Damon walks us through creating an HIK Skeleton as the first stage of the HIK Set up in Maya, and makes note of some of the issues that you will encounter along the way.

Damon then shows how you are able to control the HIK Rig walking us through all the controls of the HIK system and having the controls react to the floor, and then finally in the last part, looks at defining bones for motion capture data and how to connect a custom rig to the HIK system in Maya which will allow you to essentially map the motion capture data onto your own rigs.
