Recently Chris Montesano has been floating a few teases to cmNodes, which alludes to a complete node based shader system in Cinema 4D, another post shows how it is possible to use cmNodes with other rendering engine shaders.

With the last peek, it was mentioned that cmNodes would be compatible with V-Ray shaders, and also have some integration with Cinema 4D’s Xpresso by driving node parameters with expressions, and here, Chris provides two examples of how each of these would be interpreted in cmNodes, and how they work. Pretty exciting stuff!
