New PlugIt Script Helps Detail Hard Surface Models in Maya

Romain Chauliac’s New PlugIt Script Lets You Add Pre-Built Elements into Hard Surface Models With a Click.

Few things in 3D take as much time as cutting details into a hard surface model. There are some tools out there that make the task simple, by automating it to the point of a single click. Kit-bashing systems as they are often known are pretty prevalent, there is Decal Machine for Blender, PolyGnome for Cinema 4D and Mesh Blend for Maya. Now there is a new entry for Autodesk Maya from tool-maker Romain Chauliac: PlugIt.

The script offers an easy way to create surface details for hard surface models. With a single click, you can add pre-built elements into the surface of an object, controlling scale, rotation, and connections. The script may not be as robust as some tools at the moment. Currently, it doesn’t act as a kitbash browser, nor does it have the ability to use custom user-generated details. You are limited to the surface features that currently come with the script.

PlugIt works with Maya 2015-2018, Windows MacOS and Linux and costs $20. Visit the PlugIt page to learn more.

One nice thing about Romain’s new Plugit script is that it works on Mac and Maya 2018 which Mesh Blend doesn’t.
