Christoph Werner shows a quick and easy way to create the leather wrap for a sword grip using Blender.
Modeling in 3D is one of those things where it could be deceptively easy, or anticipatorily difficult. One element such as the leather wrap on the grip of a sword looks like it could fall under the “difficult” category, but it doesn’t have to. Christoph Werner’s latest Blender quick tip tutorial shows how to create a nice wrap in a few minutes.
Werner admits that it’s a dirty trick, but it works well as a fast way to build a wrap without spending too much time on it. The technique relies on duplicating face loops and cutting into those faces with the knife tool. Beveling and deleting the new edges leaves you with the right shapes for the wrap. The order is important!
